Setting Up Standalone Desktops
To begin creating Standalone Desktops:
- Head to the top menu and click 'Standalones'
- Click on 'Create New Standalone' Desktop
- A dialog box will appear, as shown below
Each field is described below:
-
GPU Model
Select a GPU and the corresponding type if required. Ticking the 'Display GPU enabled servers' option will limit the list to servers equipped with GPUs -
Datacentre / Server
Pick the datacentre region and server nearest to you -
OS to clone from
There are various Operating Systems to choose from.

When a template shows the 'Copy Required' label, it’s available but must first be copied to the chosen server. Typically, additional fees apply only to Windows operating systems. -
Include Custom, RC, and Old Versions
DaDesktop frequently refreshes its OS templates, but if you encounter issues with the latest one, you can fall back on an earlier version
-
Memory
Set the maximum memory for the desktops. Keep in mind that you’re constrained by the server’s resources by default, and each server may impose different memory caps. To raise these limits, get in touch via Support Chat. -
Label
Enter an alias if you want a more convenient name for your standalone.
Selecting an OS Template to Clone From
When deciding on an Operating System template, you have several options.
You can pick Windows or various Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, and others.
Pre-built templates, usually marked with a version like V51, are ready to use.
As an alternative, you can now build fully updated Linux templates. The 'Build New' Linux templates rely on a different build approach, drawing from Linux sources paired with a script that applies the needed DaDesktop customisations. As a result, the template stays fully current, secure, and simpler to deploy and maintain.
Building the OS Template
Once you’ve chosen your template, a pop-up will appear.
Click 'Start Building'.
Your standalone will then be constructed. Note that the build might take longer than 30 seconds; if it seems to hang, just give it a bit more time.
Built Template Now Available
Once the template is built, you can adjust any settings you like, then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.
Your Standalone will be set up shortly—usually just a few moments, far quicker than building the template.
Your new Standalone is ready. In the example below, it's named 'julian-6iqm', but you might prefer to assign a more descriptive label.
Click 'Connect' to launch and connect to your Standalone machine.
